Planning granted for No.1 Lambeth High St
No. 1 Lambeth High Street received planning approval following a unanimous decision by London Borough of Lambeth.
The BDP designed schemewill create 69 new homes on the site of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s former headquarters. The eight storey development will include a mixture of affordable and market tenures, and will have ground floor commercial use with basement level car parking.
The site provides an important opportunity to create a new active corner to Lambeth High Street. The building will form a new identity point which celebrates its location with a curved elevation and residential entrance set on a sightline with the Thames embankment pedestrian approach. The building makes full use of the site building up to the pavement boundary, but shaped sympathetically in response to its neighbouring buildings.
The site is located within an area of significant historic importance which relates primarily to Lambeth Palace opposite, and great care has been taken in developing the design in respect to this setting .
At ground level, an emphasis has been placed on improving the public domain and offering flexible span for commercial use. This will bring activity to the street corner as well as the residential entrances.
The scheme is expected to start on site next year with completion programmed for 2017.
